Role Description
The IT Release Manager will be responsible for, but not limited to:
1. Release Governance & Coordination
• Govern the integrated release calendar for enterprise systems and large program deployments.
• Coordinate release activities across business units, technical teams, and project delivery groups.
• Lead release planning forums, go/no-go decisions, and deployment readiness assessments.
2. Process and Documentation Uplift
• Review and uplift release and deployment processes, ensuring consistency, compliance, and alignment with ITIL, change, and transition frameworks.
• Develop and maintain high-quality release documentation: procedures, templates, checklists, runbooks, and decision logs.
• Champion repeatable, automated, and auditable release practices.
3. Strategic Program Governance
• Provide oversight and assurance for releases within large ICT programs, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, security, and operational readiness requirements.
• Work with senior program and project managers to identify dependencies, risks, and impacts associated with major releases.
• Participate in or lead governance forums to enforce release policies and ensure alignment with enterprise ICT strategy.
4. Stakeholder Engagement and Leadership
• Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders on release risks, impacts, and mitigation strategies.
• Communicate complex technical and scheduling matters to non-technical business leaders.
• Support and coach project teams on release management expectations and best practices.
Criteria
The buyer has specified that each candidate must provide a one page pitch to address all criteria specified. This is equal to 5000 characters.
Essential criteria
1. • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-level release management in complex ICT environments. • Proven track record uplifting release frameworks, tools, and documentation practices. • Strong understanding of program governance, ICT delivery models (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid), and enterprise change processes. • Excellent stakeholder management skills, including experience engaging with senior executives and multi-disciplinary program teams. • Analytical and structured thinking with a focus on risk, assurance, and performance metrics. • Ability to lead cross-program alignment in environments with interdependent delivery streams.
2. In order for your submission to be considered compliant, we will require your submission in the following format: Everything should be provided in 1 PDF Document which includes: • A cover page that contains: candidate name, submitting consulting name, availability, security clearance level, upcoming leave (exceeding 1 week), employment history with AEC and consultant comments (no more than 500 words). • A one-page pitch addressing the selection criteria. We will strictly adhere to the requirements outlined above – submission that do not meet the listed criteria will be deemed not compliant
Desirable criteria
1. • Experience working in or alongside PMO/governance bodies for major programs. • Understanding of public sector ICT accountability and assurance frameworks. • Familiarity with security and operational readiness requirements in government environments. • Experience with enterprise deployment across cloud and hybrid platforms.
